Are we headed for WWIII?

Spiegel Online 2/25/22, Cartoon of the Day by Chappatte

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana, writer and philosopher.

The following is my OPINION. We are all entitled to have one.

So, Putin has finally done it.

He has waited until the end of the Winter Olympics in China, likely in order not to upset his pal Xi, and now has attacked Ukraine and with that, is on the way to possibly start WWIII.

I predict that this time the Axis of Evil will be formed by Russia, China and North Korea, with other countries, like Belarus, joining by default.

I only hope that NATO and the rest of the world do not hesitate in their response. Sanctions do not work fast enough, and this action needs a swift and severe response from the world community.

I would hope that there are already cyberattacks against Russia on the way, to shut down their infrastructure, commerce, and even their military.

Next, I think that targeting Putin himself is in order. To kill a snake, cut off the head.

Just like Trump, Putin is an evil man. Unlike Trump, Putin isn’t greedy and dumb, he is cunning, and ruthless.

He has tested the West for years to gauge how much he can get away with.

Assassinating opponents on European soil, shooting down a passenger airplane, annexing Crimea, supporting the Dictator in Syria, are but a few examples of his evil ways.

Never mind his meddling in U.S. elections, which brought us Donald Trump, destabilized the world and emboldened right wing fascists, here and abroad.

The Russian State has shown that it does not care about western values, clearly evident by the continued cheating in international events, by doping their athletes with illegal, performance enhancing substances.

Putin is evil, and anyone on U.S. soil supporting him or his actions, trying to explain or excuse his behavior, should be arrested as a traitor and dealt with swiftly. As the saying goes, “you are either with us, or against us.” In my opinion, there is no middle ground on this issue.

It is Hitler all over!

You can not discuss or use diplomacy with megalomaniacal madmen. The only language they speak is the language of war and destruction. The longer the western world sits idly by and tries diplomacy and sanctions, the more Putin will be emboldened to carry on.

Of course, there is a difference between the Russian people and the Russian State, which is led by Putin. His punishment must be swift and severe! The Russian people are not evil, they are suffering under this tyrannical despot, and have done so for decades. If many of them suffer more, or die, because of Putin’s actions, that is definitely tragic.

If the violence spills into countries that are part of NATO, we have to act with severity. We have the means at our disposal and should not hesitate to use them! Even if, as a result, we will become targets of ICBM or nuclear missile attack ourselves.
