Republican cop-out
So, Trump and the Republicans are now nearing their goal of turbo-installing yet another tainted judge on the U.S. Supreme Court. They are hoping that with a conservative majority on the court, the judges will do the dirty work that they themselves have been reluctant to do, repeal the Affordable Care Act.
There was a time when the Republicans held the majority in both the House and the Senate, yet they could not agree on a bill repealing the Affordable Care Act because they did not then and do not now have a better option available with which to replace it!
Repealing the Affordable Care Act will result in millions of Americans losing their health insurance, having their health insurance premiums increase or make them ineligible for health insurance due to pre-existing conditions.
Repealing the Affordable Care Act, without there being a viable replacement available, ESPECIALLY DURING A PANDEMIC, will result in great suffering for millions of people! I wonder if anyone on the Supreme Court really wants to carry that blame?
Why are Trump and the Republicans so keen on getting rid of the American Care Act? Well, the answer may be racism and is rooted in the other name used for the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare.
I believe that Trump and the majority of old white men in the Republican party are chafing over the fact that our first black President has come up with a system that gives health insurance options to most of the American People and that it is named after him, cementing his legacy in history. I think that they would like to erase any and all memories of President Obama, if possible.
What it all boils down to is that the Republicans have no balls and are looking for a patsy to do their dirty work for them, in a way, instrumentalizing our highest court.
In theory, the Supreme Court is the ideal tool for such dirty work because the Judges won’t even need to fear losing their jobs because unless impeached, their positions are for life.
However, the Republicans are not considering that no matter whether a person is a conservative or liberal, they are human first and as such, I would hope that the Supreme Court Justices will either decide to make no decision on this at all and send the matter back to the politicians, or to declare the Affordable Care Act to be the currently best, legal way to provide affordable health insurance to the American people, who otherwise would not have any.
As long as there is human decency, there is hope.
