Some Thoughts about Republican Senators

So, I have mentioned this before, I think that any Senator in the impeachment trial who does not conduct themselves like a proper, impartial juror, should be taken off the jury, possibly through censure by their peers. Unfortunately this is not possible since it is not a conventional legal trial.

Reading the news, certain Republican Senators appear to display an indifference to the process and the substance of the trial. Josh Hawley of Missouri, Ted Cruz of Texas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, both of Florida, have been observed in behavior that does not appear to be in line with that of what average people would expect from an impartial juror in a trial, especially one as important to our country as this one.

Jurors showing up late, falling asleep, doodling, reading a book, sitting in a different part of the court as the other jurors, generally showing indifferenceif I were a juror in a legal trial and would behave like some of these people have, I would have been removed from the jury and possibly be fined for contempt of court, I can imagine. Alas, As mentioned earlier, this is not a legal trial.

However, in some ways this is more important than a legal trial. This impeachment trial is about what a sitting president can do at the end of his or her term, possibly without punishment. It appears that inciting an insurrection will be one of those things, according to most of the Republicans in the Senate.

So what is an impeachable defense in their eyes? Well, I guess if you are a Democrat and you receive a blow job will get you impeached! So, “Democrat” and “Sex” are two of the factors that Republicans react to when it comes to impeachable offenses. “Republican,” “abuse of power,” “obstruction of Congress,” “inciting a deadly insurrection” are not factors that Republicans react to when it comes to impeachable offenses, at least not as long as the factor “Republican” is part of that mix. Good to know.

Luckily for those of us who pay attention, each individual vote will be on the record, we will be able to identify the “Chickenshits” and the “Patriots.”

On one side we have the “Chickenshits.” They are the ones who, in the face of overwhelming evidence, in a blatant breach of their oath of office to “protect and defend our country and the U.S. Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic,” vote not to convict because they kowtow to Trump.

On the other side we have the “Patriots.” They follow their oath of office to “protect and defend our country and the U.S. Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic.” These patriotic Senators put their sworn duty before party, as they should.

Those are the kind of are people I want to represent me in the U.S. Congress!

My Hope

The “Chickenshits” should carry a stain of cowardice and shame forever! I am hoping that the the voters of their states will present them with the consequences for their gutless action at their next election and throw them out of the office they so desperately want to hang on to.

An Observation

The GOP appears to be run by lunatics, white supremacists, QAnon conspiracy theorists, right wing extremists and worst of all, egotistical and self serving “me first” characters.

The GOP has become a party of corrupt hypocrites who are only in office for power and for self interest. They will damage our country, democracy and society without thinking twice if it will serve their political and personal purpose.

These things have been on full display for all to see. Their enabling behavior since Trump took office in 2016 up until now, when they are going to acquit a treasonous President who incited an insurrection in order to hang on to power, an insurrectionist terrorist attack against our Capitol, an attack where five people died and many police officers were injured.

A Suggestion

I would suggest that those Republicans in the the House and the Senate, who are in Congress to serve the people, who are independent thinkers, who have a conscience and a sense of morals and common decency, to move their allegiance and affiliation to the Democrat side of the isle and continue to work for the benefit of our country, separating themselves from the crazy and insane.
