I have heard a lot about “fear” over the past four years but…

…what is this “fear” based on, and is it reasonable?

Over the past four years, Trump has bullied Republicans into line, it was his way or no way at all. He would publicly defame anyone on Twitter and any other social media outlet that he used to spout his lies and hate, who dared speak out against him, .

My question is, what is this fear based on? The only answer that comes to mind is the fear of Republicans that Trump’s followers won’t support them when they come up for re-election.

This brings up my next question, should elected officials be fearful? Should they be fearful of not being elected or re-elected if they speak their own mind, if they stand up for the things that they believe in or if they stand up for the things that their constituents believe in, or if they stand up for such simple values as truth, decency and morals?

Personally, I want my representative in public office to stand their ground in the face of adversity. I want them to be true to their beliefs. I want them to be independent thinkers and most of all, I want them to defend truth, decency and morals in the face of lies, deceit and corruption.

I want my representatives in public office to have a backbone and not worry about what other people may think about their public stance.

Most Republicans in Congress, over the past four years, have sucked up to Trump for fear that he would “Twitter” at them. They have trashed their morals and convictions for fear that Trump’s base would make them pay at the polls. They seem to forget that there are other voters besides the Trumpists, voters who may appreciate a politician who is a straight talker, a politician who actually defends and speaks the truth , a politician with morals who will call out racism, white supremacy, fascism, treason, insurrection, lies, hate and division. A politician who will not condone or make excuses for “grabbing women by the crotch,” calling veterans “losers and suckers” or lie about the outcome of an election.

If you are an elected official, you better be ready to stand for truth, justice, decency, morals and democracy because those are the reasons the people voted for you, not for you to get rich and powerful and worry about whether or not you will be re-elected.

There is one person I can think about right now who I would vote for in a heartbeat if I could, John Fetterman, the Lieutenant Governor for the state of Pennsylvania. In my opinion, he is a straight talking person, with backbone, who sticks to his convictions in the face of adversity.
