GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE, POLITICIANS DO!*

This is a rewrite of my submission from earlier today, when I was writing without my first cup of coffee.

Gun rights groups set new lobbying spending record in 2021

I AM SHOCKED AND NUMB

I can not watch the News!

Last night, when I got home from work, my wife told me that there had been another mass shooting at an elementary school, with 19 kids and two adults killed. This eclipses the most recent mass shooting just last week, at a grocery store in Buffalo, NY, where 13 people were shot, 10 of them killed.

I didn’t want to get the details because they don’t matter. What matters is the fact that innocent human beings lost their lives, again, and Republican politicians are refusing to do anything about it, so that it can not happen again.

When do we stop electing scumbag politicians who are beholden to the NRA? Why do we put up with politicians who are corrupt, power hungry, divisive, racist, and just plain stupid in some cases? Politicians who do not have our best interests at heart, who do not serve us, but only themselves?

Why do so many of us listen to, believe and elect obvious scumbags like Trump, Cruz, Taylor Green, Gaetz, Bobert, Gohmert, Cawthorn, DeSantis, Abbott, etc., pretty much any Republican these days, on any level? These, and I stretch the meaning of the term, “people,” are simply disgusting! They are (almost but not quite) at the same evolutionary level as the stuff that grows around the inside of a toilet bowl, when it isn’t regularly cleaned! WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THAT THOSE NUMBNUTS QUALIFY TO BE OUR LEADERS???

It is people like that who keep us back, keep us from moving forward, keep us from becoming a more loving, caring and inclusive society. It is people like that who want to keep us in the stone ages. They do not support strict gun laws! They do not want women to have a choice to have an abortion! They do not want black and brown people in this country to have a voice, that is why they are suppressing their right to vote!! They want to marginalize the LGBTQ+ community and pretend that they do not exist! They ban books and want to change our history! This list goes on and on.

Republican politicians, by their inaction and unwillingness to tighten the nation’s gun laws, have blood on their hands, including the blood of young children!

And, as if that is not enough, we have a Supreme Court that appears to be coming unhinged. Judgements are starting to be obviously politically motivated rather than being based in the law or in common sense. The latest is a ruling that a person can be innocent and still be held on Death Row! How does that go along with their reasoning to strike down Roe, where they say that they want to protect the innocent unborn?

Things can’t go on like this. I am too tired to keep complaining and making the point without anything changing. There needs to be a reckoning. All the scumbags that are currently in power need to be voted out by the general population. This is mostly Republicans on any level, but also includes a few Democrats like Joe Manchin, Henry Cuellar and Kyrsten Sinema, for example.

None of this will bring back any of the innocent victims, not the most recent ones, not any of the ones who have been killed before them throughout the decades, but it may prevent further deaths in the future.

Only if we elect officials who represent us, who stand with us, who are not corrupt, who do not take money from the NRA, can we change our country and make our daily lives safer.

*The thing about guns not killing people is just so much B.S. A person without a gun, rifle, etc. can not shoot me. They could kill me another way, but it may take them longer to do so. If they used their gun to beat me to death, then guns would actually kill people. Technically speaking, it’s the bullets that injure, maim or kill, so perhaps we ought to outlaw bullets. If we can’t outlaw bullets, then perhaps we can tax them extremely high and/or restrict the number of bullets a person may purchase in a given period of time.
