EVERYONE in the USA should watch the testimony of the officers who helped defend the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.
There is no way you can listen to these men and their stories and not start tearing up. Not only because they had to go through a horrific experience on that day, but because of Republican efforts to deny that anything bad happened on that day, AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT.
Anyone who denies that our democracy was under attack on that day, an attack directly caused by the words and actions of Donald J. Trump, his lies about the election and his refusal to transfer the power of the presidency to the duly elected 46th President, Joseph R. Biden.
The scary thing is that these lies are still being repeated and the fires of hate and resentment are being stoked by MAGA Republicans around our nation but most disgustingly also by Republican Senators and Representatives in the U.S. Congress, QAnon followers, conspiracy theorists and many racists and hate groups, yet nothing is being done about it.
Anyone repeating, perpetuating or spreading still spreading these lies today should be arrested and tried for endangering the public peace, endangering democracy and slandering 81,283,089 members of the electorate.
It is disgusting that Republicans are denying the recorded facts that these events have happened, that they cast doubt on our electoral process and that they are still protecting a corrupt flim-flam artist, a common thug, a loser, phoney and blender, a grifter and swindler par excellence who managed to get himself elected to our highest office…and has been twice impeached while there.
I guess they feel that admitting having made a mistake and showing remorse over it would hurt their political careers, so they decide to press on and hope to get out on the other side, still in power, forgetting that they are in their positions because of the citizens who voted for them, whom they represent and to whom they owe the truth.
Voting twice to not find Donald J. Trump guilty in his impeachment trials is a travesty in itself, something that history will judge them for as cowards. However, the latest behavior by Republicans, their attacks on democracy, their attempts to rewrite recorded history, their attempts to curtail voting rights, will put them on level with fascists and authoritarian scum, racists, white supremacists and conspiracy theorists.
We are a nation of immigrants, land grabbers, conquerors and slaves. Our history is messy, dirty and violent. Anyone who wants white old men to stay in power in perpetuity is not part of modern American society but a racist, white supremacist and fascist.
People have died to defend democracy and the right to vote! Republicans want to take that right away from black and brown citizens or at least make it much more difficult for them to take part in the electoral process. This is nothing but shameful and disgusting.
Anyone thinking that those of us who identify with the idea of “all persons are being equal” and the ideas of freedom and democracy, will not fight to the death to defend our Constitution and to defend these notions from the violent, hateful fascists, the racists and white supremacists who want to grab power and hold onto it for as long as possible, you are deluding yourself and are sadly mistaken.
