ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The news this morning is that the Supreme Court is going to overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away a woman’s right to choose, transporting them right back into the mid 1800s.
THERE IS NO CORRESPONDING NEWS THAT BIRTH CONTROL, FOR ALL WOMEN, IS NOW READILY AVAILABLE AND FREE OF CHARGE, EVEN WITHOUT INSURANCE.
THERE IS ALSO NOTHING IN THE NEWS THAT MEN, CAUSING AN UNWANTED PREGNANCY, WILL HAVE TO TAKE ON THE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SUPPORT FOR THE MOTHER AND THE CHILD, AND THAT FAILURE, UNWILLINGNESS, OR INABILITY TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE CASTRATION OR STERILIZATION.
What does it say about our society, where there is still no equal pay for equal work, and where we now also take away a woman’s right to choose?
In our patriarchal society, we give more rights and protections to a dividing mass of cells, (could also be a description for cancer), than we do to the person who has these unwanted cells growing in her body.
To add to the hypocrisy, once the mass of cells has left the host body in the form of a baby, our society ceases its support for both the mother and the child, leaving them to fend for themselves. Furthermore, if the child is black or brown and grows up in difficult circumstances, chances are great that s/he will meet a violent end, perhaps at the hands of law enforcement.
It is time we did something about the Supreme Court. For one thing, Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court should not have a lifetime appointment.
Looking at the current court, Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, who were nominated by twice impeached Donald Trump, are highly controversial figures because of the way two of them, Gorsuch and Coney Barrett were selected. The general understanding is that both Gorsuch and Coney Barrett’s nominations were stolen by a Republican Senate, from two Democratic Presidents, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Kavanaugh’s nomination was controversial as such that he has the unresolved accusation of date rape hanging over him, similar to Justice Thomas, where a woman came forward and accused him of sexual improprieties, before he became a Supreme Court Justice.
In any case, nobody in our country should be able to make rules and laws that affect all of us, without them having to be accountable for their actions and face consequences, such as the possibility of losing their job. It should even be possible to hold them accountable in a court of law, for possible improprieties. To just rely on them to “do the right thing” is not a good policy. Self-regulation has never really worked ANYWHERE!
Now, no matter how much we may be tempted to do something about these current lifetime positions, to maybe cut them a bit short in one way or another, that is NOT the way to go about things.
We do have the power to change things without violence, to reclaim our Republic and our democracy, so that we can continue moving forward into a bright future.
ALL people who consider themselves to be free spirited, open-minded, free thinking, inclusive, progressive, loving, cosmopolitan, tolerant, “citizens of the earth,” must band together and take a stand against the patriarchy of racist, intolerant homophobic, xenophobic, fascist, women-hating people in this world.
How? Simple. DO NOT VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN! EVER AGAIN!!
Republicans can not be trusted to govern. They must be prevented from holding power! Maybe not forever, that is a pretty long time, but at least until the current crop of haters that want to be “trumpier than Trump” has died off or slunk back into the dank, smelly dens of despair from which they emerged.
It is unbelievable that in the 21st century, we don’t let women decide for themselves what is best for them.
Well, when I say WE, it really is only one political party that supports this warped view. That party is the one that embraces conspiracy theories, insurrectionists, white supremacists, racists, homophobes, xenophobes, gun lovers, QAnon nutters, right wing fascists and Tucker Carlson.
Just in case you have been living in a cave for the past six years, away from any news, here are some of the things that one of the two political parties in the USA has been “up to” while you were gone: (BTW, would you tell me where I can find that cave, I think I could use a break from all of this crap!)
Republicans stole one Supreme Court nomination from President Barack Obama and one from President Joe Biden, both Democrats! Republicans enabled a liar and cheat by failing to “vote to convict” in not only one, but two impeachment trials! Republicans are still spreading the Big Lie of election fraud and a stolen election! Republicans are against science! Republicans deny that the climate is changing! Republicans do not want to combat climate change. A Republican President has taken the USA out of the Paris climate agreement! Republicans are AGAINST wearing face masks in a pandemic with an airborne pathogen! Republicans want to change the way we look at our history! Republicans are banning books! Republicans discriminate against people who do not look like them! Republicans make voting harder for black, brown and poor people or try to keep them from voting outright! Republicans are putting restrictions on women’s rights! Republicans refuse to do anything against the scourge of guns in our country! Republicans want to do away with the separation of church and state! Republicans are for tax breaks for the rich, but against reducing the student debt!
As for the last President and now de facto leader of that party, here are some highlights of the damage he has caused while in office:
The last Republican President was twice impeached! The last Republican President was the first one in our history to prevent a peaceful transfer of power! The last Republican President invented the Big Lie! The last Republican President paved the way for white supremacists, racists, fascist and other haters to spew their hate in public! The last Republican President cosied up to and admired the Russian Despot who meddled in our 2016 election and who is now waging war against Ukraine, the same country that the last Republican President tried to blackmail! The last Republican President also embraced the North Korean Dictator who starves his people! The last Republican President, through his shameless words and deeds in domestic and foreign affairs, has enabled Autocrats in countries like Hungary, Belarus and Turkey, to strengthen their hold on power! The last Republican President, through his vilification of journalists, has endangered individuals covering the news here and abroad! The last Republican President, has undermined democracy by declaring journalists “the enemy,” considering that a free press is the basis of any democracy!
