Abortion and Gun Control

This thought came to me this morning while I was out, getting groceries. If Abortion is declared to be illegal, then owning guns MUST be declared illegal too.

Why? The answer is simple, Pro-Life supporters claim that all life is sacred. Even a dividing mass of cells in a woman’s uterus, to them, qualifies as life and therefore must be protected.

Generally speaking, most women who conceive choose not to get an abortion. Even women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy do not always have an abortion. It is women who are in dire straits who are looking to terminate their pregnancies. The reasons may be of financial, economic or emotional origin, or the women have other issues in their lives that make them feel that they are not able to be pregnant and eventually care for a baby.

In a nutshell, the reasons for why a woman might not want to have a baby are many, and they are every woman’s private business.

Many people in this country of ours own a gun. Many even own several guns. While most of those gun owners are responsible people who take gun ownership and gun safety serious, there are the few bad apples who own guns, legally or illegally, and use them for bad.

Twenty thousand seven hundred twenty-six (20726) people died from guns in 2021. Those were living, breathing people who, in one way or another, were contributing to our society.

Six hundred twenty thousand, eight hundred ninety-eight (620898) abortions were performed in our country in 2019. Most of them were medical procedures that eliminated an unwanted dividing mass of cells from a woman’s body.

While the numbers are high either way, the same people who think that a dividing mass of cells in a woman’s body needs to be protected, find the killing of fully formed people acceptable.

Living, breathing people do not need to be protected from gun violence. It would endanger our freedom and rights if we banned guns. Yet, at the same time, Pro-Life supporters want to ban all abortions.

The fact that this infringes upon the personal rights and freedom of a woman to choose her own reproductive health, does not matter. Some Pro-Lifers don’t even care if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, or if the pregnancy endangers the life of the woman. Her life apparently does not matter.

A ban on guns and other fire arms would make our country definitely a lot safer, and it would save a lot of actual lives. Readily available, free contraception for women and men and thorough, plain talking sex education programs in schools would probably also go a long way to reduce unwanted pregnancies.

To me, it looks like the Pro-Lifers do not truly care about people and life, for them, it is mostly about controlling women and their bodies. If they wanted to protect life, then they would fight equally hard to ban guns …and end the death penalty too.

One last thought, banning impotency drugs like Cialis, Viagra, etc., should go hand in hand with an abortion ban. If women are not allowed to self determine their reproductive life and health, then we must do all we can to make it more difficult for men to impregnate them. A limp “Dödel” is one way to do that.
